Our review process

We review a lot of different products, so of course our process for reviewing them varies depending on what kind of tool, appliance, or gadget we’re dealing with. Still, there are some things we look at in absolutely every product we review. Here’s a peek at how we go about evaluating:

Functionality

Our aim in this section is pretty simple. We ask: does it do what it’s supposed to do? How does the marketing measure up to the actual performance? What can you expect this product to do in your kitchen? What kinds of meals will it help to prepare? Basically, we want to check that the product works, and that it does essentially what the manufacturer says it’s supposed to.

User-friendliness

Just as important as functionality is user-friendliness! It doesn’t really matter to us how well something works if it’s a pain in the ass to get there. So, we look at things like installation on water filters, or control panels on appliances. We check out cleaning processes, and the adjustment features, to see how easy a given product is to actually use. We ask: how easy is it to get the results you want?

Accuracy

Accuracy means a lot of different things when you start looking at different product categories. Here are a few practical examples to show you what we mean when we talk about how accurate a product is: does the water filter meet certifications? Does the cooking appliance get up to the temperature it’s displaying? Is it consistent throughout the time you’re using it, and does it perform the same when you use it the next time?

The key here is to be able to trust an appliance or a tool to do exactly what it’s supposed to be doing each time you use it. After all, the whole reason we use appliances and gadgets in the kitchen is to cut down on eye-balling and guesswork. So, try to recommend only products which you can trust to do exactly what you tell them to!

Durability/Reliability

This one’s absolutely essential. Here at Best Kitchen Pro, nothing irks us more than something breaking in the kitchen. That always seems to happen just when you need whatever product has just broken, doesn’t it? So, we pay special attention to build quality, durability and reliability–no matter what kind of thing we’re reviewing. We ask: is it built solidly? Will it stand up to regular use? Are there any weak points in the design? What kind of insurance is provided?

We also do our homework in checking reviews from previous buyers, since we don’t review products over the course of years. So, we do a survey to see what people who have been using these products long-term are saying. In our reviews, we’ll include any pertinent issues we think you should be aware of, and try to give you a forecast of how long a given product might last the average person.

Value

Last but not least, we look at value. Value can mean a lot of things to different people, but we look at prices, compare models to the competition’s price point, and then make an assessment: is it worth the money? Is it easy to get your money’s worth? Who’s it appropriate for–the average buyer, or the connoisseur?
